So I've just received my Mr. Beer kit in the mail. Bought it off woot.com for 20 bucks :) Made the wort last night, and have the first batch in the fermenter...let's see how it tastes next month :D

I first saw this movie initially back in 2001-2002...rented off of Netflix, not knowing much about it other than it got really good reviews when played at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 1998. When I first watched this movie (which really doesn't take itself too seriously), I was struck by how rich the storyline was...and how the actions of one person could potentially change the rest of another's life.

Fast forward 9 years and I find myself having a greater sense of appreciation for a lot of the concepts employed...ideas such as grace, karma, fate, time and faith. It really makes a film that's already fun to watch, also very satisfying emotionally. If you've never seen it, I won't introduce too many spoilers....if you've happened to take a philosphy course with me (*wink, nudge*) you'll know exactly what I mean. Enjoy! "On the evening of May 29, 1997, Buckley's band flew in intending to join him in his Memphis studio to work on the newly written material. That same evening, Buckley went swimming in Wolf River Harbor, a slackwater channel of the Mississippi River, while wearing boots, all of his clothing, and singing the chorus of the song "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin. A roadie of Buckley's band, Keith Foti, remained ashore. After moving the radio and a guitar out of reach of the wake from a passing tugboat, Foti looked up to see that Buckley was gone. Despite a determined rescue effort that night, Buckley remained missing. On June 4, his body was spotted by a tourist on a riverboat and was brought ashore.

The autopsy to clarify the cause of Buckley's death confirmed Buckley had taken no illegal drugs before his swim and a drug overdose was therefore ruled out as cause of death. In order to clarify the situation of his death, this statement was released from the Buckley estate:

-Jeff Buckley's death was not "mysterious," related to drugs, alcohol, or suicide. We have a police report, a medical examiner's report, and an eye witness to prove that it was an accidental drowning, and that Mr. Buckley was in a good frame of mind prior to the accident.-" --Wikipedia

What he left behind, was an an outstanding albumn...somewhat manic depressive in its delivery but nonetheless the world lost an amazing talent that day.

I recently saw this video, and honestly like the unplugged version much better than the album. While searching for the lyrics I came across a comment that pretty much sums up my feelings about the song as well:

"To me it's about a great and consuming love, an obsession with the person you care for till the point where he is everything to you and you trust him more than you do yourself- "and why should I believe myself not you?" IMHO this song describes the way a man feels for the person that is the meaning of his life, the one that without him he can't imagine his life."

If there's any indication that there's sanity left in the world, it is Thanksgiving to me...where I am re-united with familiar faces, abiet older each and every passing year. I cherish each and every moment I can spend with my grandparents...this year it was mostly sitting down with my grandfather trying to solve this RIDICULOUSLY DIFFICULT puzzle. (A friend of his gave it to him disassembled, so the added challenge was not knowing what it would look like when done...well after about 4 hours we agreed to look it up online...whipped out the iphone and did a little search):

We left off still stumped on this one...hopefully around xmas we can pick up where we left off.

As I search through all the food cabinets in my house, I begin to ponder what I'm really looking for. Am I really hungry? Or is it something more deep...more profound that draws me here, a longing for a better life...a desire to have a closer relationship with God...a better understanding of my place in this worl...oh wait, Oat Bran, this is perfect!
